Car Catches Fire on Sotira to Ayia Napa Road

A vehicle caught fire while travelling along the Sotira to Ayia Napa road at 7.05am on Monday. Police confirmed that the driver managed to escape the burning car unharmed before emergency crews arrived on the scene. The incident occurred during the early morning hours when traffic begins to build up along this popular coastal route connecting the eastern districts.

The fire service responded promptly with a fire engine and a rescue vehicle to tackle the blaze. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control and successfully extinguished the flames by 7.25am. An ambulance also attended the scene as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Fortunately, the driver did not require hospital treatment after managing to get out of the vehicle in time. Despite the dramatic nature of the event, there were no reports of serious injuries or damage extending beyond the affected car. Authorities have not yet specified the cause of the fire, and no further details regarding the vehicle involved have been released to the public.

This incident serves as a reminder for motorists to keep their vehicles in good mechanical condition. Engine fires can sometimes result from electrical faults or oil leaks, so regular servicing remains essential for safety on Cyprus roads. Drivers are advised to carry a working fire extinguisher and to pull over safely if they notice smoke or unusual smells while driving.
