Limassol traffic authorities are facing questions after social media video surfaced on Sunday showing a racing car executing repeated high-speed drifts around the busy Linopetra roundabout while flares burned along the roadway. The dangerous stunt, which was shared online with the caption "Just Married," appeared to be part of an elaborate wedding celebration that effectively shut down one of the city's key road junctions.
Footage of the incident reveals a purpose-built race car sliding sideways multiple times around the central island of the Linopetra roundabout. Flares were lit along the perimeter, casting bright red light across the asphalt, while at least one bystander was spotted standing directly on the active roadway. To facilitate the display, tow trucks were strategically parked across the roundabout's access points, preventing regular traffic from entering the intersection while the driver carried out the burnouts and drifts.
When contacted regarding the footage, Limassol traffic police told philenews that officers had not been informed of the event in advance and had received no formal complaints from motorists at the time. Blocking public highways and conducting unauthorized stunt driving on public roads carry severe penalties under Cyprus traffic laws, including heavy fines, vehicle impoundment, and license suspensions. The brazen takeover of a major arterial junction in Limassol highlights ongoing concerns over road safety and illegal street stunts across the island.
