Two Drivers Caught Over Drink-Drive Limit in Larnaca and Nicosia

Two motorists were caught driving over the legal alcohol limit in the early hours of Sunday in Larnaca and Nicosia, police confirmed. Officers conducting routine traffic checks stopped a vehicle on Independence Avenue in Alethriko, within the Larnaca district, where a 45-year-old driver recorded 131mcg on a breath test, far exceeding the 22mcg legal limit.

In Nicosia, police stopped a car driven by a 24-year-old on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue. The driver registered 79mcg on the breath test, also well above the 22mcg threshold. Both men were handed bail documents requiring them to appear before the Larnaca and Nicosia district courts on Monday morning for immediate filing of charges.

In a separate incident, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Nicosia for refusing to provide a breath sample during an alcohol test. He was later released after being served with a bail document requiring his appearance before the Nicosia District Court on Monday morning for immediate filing of charges.

These arrests underscore the strict enforcement of Cyprus's drink-drive laws, with the legal limit set at just 22mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. Cyprus drivers are reminded that even minimal alcohol consumption can lead to serious consequences, including court appearances, fines, and potential driving bans. Road users across the island should plan ahead and arrange alternative transport if they intend to consume any alcohol.
