Cyprus Police deployed organized patrols throughout the island overnight as part of preventive operations aimed at curbing serious crime and strengthening public order. The intensive night effort led to the arrest of three individuals facing charges that included illegal stay on Cypriot territory and securing goods through false representations. Authorities emphasized that the heightened police presence across urban centers was designed to reassure drivers and residents while disrupting criminal activity.
During the operations, police stopped 483 vehicles for inspection and checked 655 persons traveling in them. Traffic enforcement generated 300 complaints related to various road violations, including 115 cases of speeding. Officers also conducted 35 premises checks targeting illegal activity, which produced two complaints and contributed to nine investigated traffic violation cases.
The night's enforcement also included vehicle seizures, with seven cars impounded by authorities. Alcohol testing resulted in five complaints, while two preliminary drug tests were carried out, one of which returned a positive result.
The Cyprus Police confirmed that preventive and crime suppression operations will continue on a daily basis with increased officer presence, targeted vehicle checks, and immediate operational action. The department aims to enhance public safety, protect citizens, and maintain order across the island's road network.
