Police in Paphos reported 34 people for offences under the personal mobility devices law during a targeted enforcement campaign over the weekend. The operation involved officers from the Paphos Traffic Police and the Paphos Cycling Police, who checked the town's road network as part of broader efforts to prevent fatal and serious collisions.
The breakdown of the reported offences shows 14 riders were caught using a personal mobility device in a prohibited area. Ten individuals failed to wear a protective helmet, while four were noted for carrying objects placed on the device. One person was recorded riding outside the designated lane, another for failing to obey traffic lights and road signs, and a third for not giving a proper hand signal. Finally, three riders were cited for not securing their devices, which allowed a minor under the age of 17 to use them.
Authorities said the checks aim to raise awareness of safety rules and reduce the risk of accidents involving e-scooters and similar devices. By focusing on helmet use, proper lane discipline and device security, the police hope to encourage responsible behaviour among all road users in Cyprus.
