EU Safety Gate Alert: Ford, BMW, and Mercedes Models Flagged as Dangerous

The Cyprus Road Transport Department, known as TOM, has issued an urgent safety alert regarding numerous vehicles and motorcycle parts flagged as dangerous under the European Union's Safety Gate system. The alert covers specific models from major manufacturers including Ford, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Land Rover, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Audi, Kia, Dodge, Cadillac, and Renault Trucks. These vehicles were identified during weeks 37, 38, and 39 of 2026, prompting immediate action to prevent potentially hazardous products from reaching local roads.

The department has formally requested that manufacturers, representatives, distributors, importers, and sellers, including those who operate online or sell at a distance, notify TOM immediately if they have placed or are placing these unsafe products on the market in Cyprus. This proactive measure is designed to intercept dangerous goods before they pose a threat to local drivers and road users. The list of flagged motorcycles also includes brands such as BMW Motorrad, BRP Can-Am, Rewaco, and Hengjian.

The Road Transport Department received this critical information from the Consumer Protection Service, which monitors the EU's rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. Safety Gate serves as a vital mechanism for sharing safety concerns across member states, ensuring that potentially defective vehicles and components are flagged before they can cause harm. Local authorities are urging all importers and retailers to verify their inventories against the official Safety Gate listings to maintain high safety standards on the roads.
