The Fuel Retail Price Observatory reported that diesel averaged 1.977 euros per litre on Wednesday morning. Prices at the pump ranged from 1.869 euros to 2.076 euros across the island. The observatory data was released by the Consumer Protection Service.
Unleaded 95 petrol averaged 1.70 euros per litre with a spread between 1.595 euros and 1.789 euros. The figures highlight a widening gap between diesel and petrol costs for Cypriot motorists.
Consumer Protection Service director Konstantinos Karagiorgis told the Cyprus News Agency that geopolitical developments leave little room for optimism about future fuel prices. He said he cannot predict what will happen with upcoming fuel cargoes. Karagiorgis added that he hopes regional disputes will be resolved so the market can stabilise.
Drivers in Nicosia, Limassol and the coastal highways are already feeling the impact at the pump. The Department of Road Transport and the Ministry of Transport continue to monitor the situation closely. Industry analysts warn that sustained high refinery prices could keep diesel near the two‑euro mark for weeks.
