Cyprus Police carried out an extensive overnight enforcement campaign across urban areas nationwide, resulting in three arrests, hundreds of vehicle interceptions, and nearly 300 traffic citations. Officers intercepted 875 vehicles and conducted checks on 1,175 drivers and passengers during targeted patrols aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order, and improving road safety. In addition to traffic stops, law enforcement inspected 62 commercial premises, yielding 24 violations.
Road policing units reported a total of 291 traffic violations during the operation, alongside 15 active investigations into serious road traffic offenses. Authorities also impounded eight vehicles during the checks. Speeding accounted for a major share of the infractions, with officers booking 60 motorists for exceeding established speed limits across urban centers and major connecting routes.
Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs remained a primary focus throughout the night. Officers administered 311 breathalyzer tests, catching 31 drivers operating vehicles while intoxicated. Out of six targeted drug tests conducted at police checkpoints, three motorists tested positive for illegal substances. Meanwhile, the three individuals taken into custody face charges related to verbal threats, severe traffic offenses, and unpaid judicial fine warrants.
Police officials confirmed that these targeted operational checks will continue daily across all districts on the island. The increased law enforcement presence and strategic road checkpoints aim to curb reckless behavior, protect responsible road users, and uphold public safety across Cyprus roads.
