Cyprus Police Impound Vehicles and Issue 285 Traffic Fines in Overnight Crackdown

Cyprus Police executed an intensive series of targeted overnight operations across the island, resulting in four arrests, three vehicle impoundments, and 285 traffic offense citations. The island-wide initiative aimed to deter serious criminal activity, maintain public order, and enhance safety across key urban areas and major road networks. During the coordinated evening patrols, officers intercepted and inspected a total of 467 drivers and 99 passengers.

Traffic enforcement was a primary focus of the operation, yielding 285 complaints for various motoring infractions. Excessive speed dominated the road violations, with 85 drivers cited for exceeding speed limits. Officers also carried out 112 alcohol breathalyzer tests, leading to nine official complaints for driving under the influence. As a direct result of these roadside checks, police impounded three vehicles and opened formal investigations into four additional traffic violation cases.

Alongside road safety checks, law enforcement personnel conducted inspections at 26 business premises, issuing two complaints for regulatory breaches. The overnight crackdown culminated in the arrest of four individuals facing criminal charges that included motorcycle theft, receiving stolen property, and insulting and physically assaulting a police officer. Authorities emphasized that these proactive police operations will continue on a daily basis with an increased police presence on Cyprus roads to safeguard citizens and uphold public order.
