Cyprus Police Arrest Five and Issue 269 Traffic Citations in Overnight Islandwide Crackdown

Five people were arrested overnight on Tuesday following intensive islandwide police operations aimed at tackling both criminal activity and severe traffic violations. Law enforcement officers deployed across key road networks and urban areas in the Republic, conducting targeted stops to reinforce road safety and public security.

The offences leading to the five arrests spanned serious property crimes and dangerous road behavior. Charges include conspiracy to commit a felony, building burglary and theft, vehicle theft, and illegal possession of property. Police also detained suspects for dangerous and reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and illegal stay in the Republic.

Traffic enforcement made up a major part of the campaign, with officers stopping 694 vehicles and checking 925 drivers and passengers. A total of 269 traffic complaints were formally filed during the operation. Exceeding the speed limit was the most common violation, resulting in 111 individual citations.

Officers also targeted impaired driving throughout the night. A total of 96 alcohol tests were conducted, leading to 4 formal complaints, while 4 preliminary drug tests yielded 1 positive result. Authorities emphasize that strict road checks will remain a regular feature across Cyprus to deter reckless motorists and keep highways safe.
