34 E-Scooter Users Reported in Famagusta Traffic Crackdown

Famagusta traffic police have announced that a total of 34 complaints and violations have been recorded since Thursday as part of a targeted campaign addressing the use of personal mobility devices in prohibited areas. The enforcement initiative, confirmed on Friday, aims to address the rising safety concerns associated with the unchecked operation of electric scooters on public roads. Local authorities are stepping up efforts to ensure that micro-mobility users comply with traffic laws, protecting both riders and pedestrians in high-traffic zones.

The breakdown of the violations reveals significant deviations from safe riding practices. Specifically, nine cases involved electric scooters being operated outside designated traffic lanes, while three riders were cited for using their devices in unauthorized areas. Furthermore, eight individuals were officially reported for failing to wear a mandatory helmet. These infractions highlight the common oversights made by riders who often overlook basic safety protocols and regional restrictions.

The campaign is continuing, with traffic police indicating that patrols will remain active to deter future violations. Officials remind all road users that electric scooters must adhere to the same traffic rules as bicycles or other non-motorized vehicles, with strict penalties for non-compliance. As Cyprus continues to integrate modern mobility solutions, responsible usage and adherence to designated lanes remain paramount for community safety. CarCY urges all riders to stay informed about local transport regulations to ensure a safe journey for everyone on the road.
