Cyprus MOT Inspection Guide: Rules, Frequencies, Checklist & Prices

Periodic roadworthiness testing (MOT) is a mandatory legal requirement for all motor vehicles operating in Cyprus.

1. MOT Rules & Inspection Frequencies

• Brand New Cars (0–4 years): Exempt for the first 4 years.
• Private Cars (4+ years): Mandatory inspection every 2 years.
• Imported Used Cars: Must pass initial MOT before RTD (TOM) registration.
• Commercial / Taxi / Driving School: Mandatory inspection annually (every 12 months).

2. Pricing & Test Duration

• Official Standard MOT Fee: Fixed nationwide at €35.
• Duration: 20–30 minutes at any licensed test station.

1. Braking System (roller bench testing, handbrake, balance)
2. Exhaust Emissions (CO2 & smoke opacity test)
3. Lighting & Headlight Alignment
4. Steering, Suspension, Joints & Axles
5. Tyre Condition & Tread Depth (minimum 1.6 mm)
6. Body Integrity & Windscreen Condition
7. Dashboard Warning Lights (no active Check Engine, ABS, SRS/Airbag lights)

4. Penalties for Driving with an Expired MOT

• Police Fine: €150 fine + penalty points.
• Insurance Invalidation: Insurers may reject accident claims.
