The public works department issued a statement defending the termination of the contract for the Paphos‑Polis Chrysochous road. The department said the move was unavoidable and that the tenders board had rejected the submitted bids. The response came after Disy vice‑president Yiannis Karousos raised concerns.
According to the department Transport Minister Evi Tsolaki instructed officials to prepare proposals on September 16 2026. Those proposals outline several options for completing the project. The latest plan focuses on building a four‑lane road to prevent further delays and avoid repeating past problems.
The department highlighted that the road project has been pending since the 1990s. It also dismissed claims that there were delays in evaluating the tenders. Officials stressed that the new proposals aim to select a solution that will move the project forward without the recurring issues seen both recently and historically.
The statement concluded that the department remains committed to delivering a safe and efficient route for Cyprus drivers and road users. The focus is now on finalizing the four‑lane design and moving ahead with construction as soon as possible.
