Cyprus Police conducted intensive overnight operations across the island, resulting in eight arrests and nearly four hundred traffic citations. Law enforcement officers pulled over vehicles to perform targeted checks on 876 drivers and 216 passengers as part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to bolster road safety and curb criminal activity on local roads.
During the comprehensive road checks, officers issued a total of 387 reports for various traffic offences. Excess speed remained a major concern for traffic police, with 96 drivers caught speeding across the road network. Officers also caught 13 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and four individuals operating vehicles under the influence of drugs. Police impounded seven vehicles as a result of these serious infractions.
The overnight operation extended beyond traffic enforcement to address broader criminal offences. Eight individuals were taken into custody on charges including car arson, illegal residence, drink driving, illegal possession of property, and the circulation of false documents. Authorities also raided 38 premises during the night, filing one official report during those inspections.
The broad campaign highlights the determination of Cyprus Police to maintain strict law enforcement on the island's motorways and urban routes. Motorists across Cyprus are reminded to strictly adhere to speed limits, refrain from driving under the influence, and ensure their documentation is in order, as police confirm that coordinated checks will continue.
