A National Guard VAB-type armoured personnel carrier overturned on the Avgorou-Frenaros road near the industrial area on Tuesday, the defence ministry confirmed.
The vehicle was carrying two contract soldiers when it veered off the roadway and flipped into an adjacent field. The passenger sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to Paralimni General Hospital, while the driver was also transported as a precaution.
Both soldiers underwent medical examinations and were discharged later the same day. The ministry said the families of the personnel had been informed of the incident.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. The incident highlights the need for caution on rural routes such as the Avgorou-Frenaros corridor, especially near industrial zones where heavy traffic and limited visibility can increase risk.
The Department of Road Transport has reminded drivers to observe posted limits and to remain alert for military convoys that occasionally use the same arteries. Police patrols have been increased in the area while the investigation proceeds.
