Four arrested in overnight police operations – Cyprus traffic crackdown yields 556 vehicle checks

Police carried out a nationwide operation on Wednesday night that led to the arrest of four individuals for illegal employment and traffic violations. During the sweep, officers checked 556 vehicles and 662 people, while also inspecting 54 establishments, which generated four reports. The operation was part of an ongoing effort to improve road safety and enforce labor laws across the island.

Traffic enforcement generated 342 reports for various offences, with 106 of them related to speeding. In addition, 12 suspected traffic offences are still under investigation, and five vehicles were impounded as a result of the checks. These figures highlight the prevalence of dangerous driving behaviours on Cyprus roads.

Roadside breathalyser tests were also conducted, with 124 tests performed and 10 reports issued for alcohol‑related offences. Three preliminary drug‑driving tests were carried out, and one of those returned a positive result. The findings underscore the importance of continued sobriety and drug‑free driving checks.

The combined operation resulted in four arrests and a total of four reports from the inspected establishments, reinforcing the authorities’ commitment to public safety. Cyprus Police, the Department of Road Transport (TOM) and the Ministry of Transport coordinated the effort, which covered major routes such as the A1 and A6 motorways and the Limassol‑Nicosia highway. Drivers are reminded that strict enforcement will continue to protect road users across the island.
